Stone Conversations | Fredrikstad Kunstforening

I was originally supposed to have this exhibition in 2025, but I was unexpectedly invited to an artist residency in Sorrento, Italy. Luckily, I was able to postpone the exhibition. I created the series that gave the exhibition its title last year, while the other works are new. I also had the opportunity to show an art object and a sculpture, which I was particularly pleased about.
The installation went very smoothly. I think I finished everything in just a couple of hours. I treated myself to a nice hotel for two nights, as there was a pre-opening the evening before the official opening, as part of the Kulturnatt cultural event.
Here are some images from the opening. It was a very pleasant evening, although the audience was rather small. A couple of friends had also travelled from Oslo to see the exhibition.
I'm very happy with how the exhibition turned out. I've been working with the speech balloon as a visual symbol for some time, and I've decided to bring these works together in a series called Language Container. This exhibition features most of the works in the series, along with a few new standalone pieces and a new sculpture made from leftover materials. The sculpture forms an installation together with the painting #576 Danse Macabre.
The photographic documentation turned out reasonably well, despite the spotlights. I waited until sunset to get a better colour balance. I recently got a new phone, so I decided to photograph the exhibition twice—once with my phone and once with my camera. To my surprise, the phone produced larger images, and they turned out to be sharper as well. So I think I'll be using my phone for exhibition documentation from now on.
