#109 Distal Object
93x125 cm | Filler, oak frame
About
The work deals with the human struggle to master and domesticate nature and its unpredictable forces. In its chaotic and uncontrollable form, nature can be linked to the Lacanian concept of the Real, meaning the realm outside the symbolic and language. This is also part of the human mind. Our behaviour is mainly shaped outside of consciousness and is, as such inaccessible to us. Nature is within us.
Distal End
Science of perception uses the term distal stimuli for objects and events out in the world about you. Distal means "situated away from the point of attachment". This series deals with the inaccessibility of reality and, at the same time, our interdependency with it.
Sign
Sign is a compilation of works that more or less vaguely resemble phenomena in reality. They do not represent specific things or places but utilise how perception is always searching for particular shapes related to different categories in the language of the mind.
