Preface
This book covers all paintings I did between 2000 and 2012. I start their numbering with the first work using the inlay technique. It could have been a more productive period, mostly because I was busy having small children and supporting them. But through these 40 works, I search for a new and consistent way to paint and express my ideas. I move closer to my current work process for each new series or batch of paintings. This is why I made a separate book for these first years - in many ways, they represent preparation for what’s about to come.
Even though my main interest always has been the relationship between language and matter, in retrospect, it becomes apparent that my work thematically reflects my life situation. The first works show family life; the latter becomes more abstract and concerned with monotony and repetition. They also offer a gradual departure from working based on and dealing with photography. I had started working with stripes shortly before my divorce in 2007, but still, they expressed my state of mind at the time.
